Preston, England

Radio 1's Big Weekend is the biggest free ticketed event in Europe. It's the first British music festival of the year and always attracts big UK and worldwide artists. And if you want to see the new names who'll dominate the summer's festivals, this is the place.

The major artists play the Main Stage, while the artists you hear on Radio 1's evening shows are on the In New Music We Trust stage. Around seven artists perform on each stage each day.

A new addition for Preston will be a third stage where Radio 1 dance and specialist DJs will play out with special guests.

The music starts around 12.00 and ends around 21.00.

You can meet the acts and the Radio 1 DJs in the signing tent. Of course there are bars on site. And you're provided with the best portaloos we can find!

What else will happen
In the week running up to the festival we'll be touring the north west of England with shows coming live from different cities.

Local music makers can rock up to Radio 1 workshops and there'll be gigs laid on in the evening.

On Friday and Saturday night Radio 1 takes over local clubs for pre and after parties. Radio 1 DJs will be playing along side the best local and national DJs.

Radio 1's Big Weekend on the BBC
Naturally you'll be able to hear the live music, backstage action, interviews and more on Radio 1 across the weekend.

You'll also be able to watch the live sets on BBCi by pressing red on digital TV. Plus BBC Three will have the best of the performances each night.

You can watch it all here online whenever you want for the week afterwards.

How to get tickets
Tickets for the two main festival days are free and you'll have to register for the chance to get some. Find out more about this.

Tickets for pre and after parties will be sold locally in the run up to the event.

We'll be announcing more details and the line-up towards the end of April.
